Glenn Pendlay and Donny Shankle at CrossFit HardCore

January 29th 2012

We would like to thank Glenn Pendlay and one of his athletes Donny Shankle for putting on an INCREDIBLE weightlifting clinic today.  We had over 40 people in attendance and the day was full of GREAT knowledge, PR’s and a phenomenal display of athleticism, witnessing a training session by Shankle.  All those in attendance can attest to the way and technique that Coach Pendlay teaches, enabling them to hit some BIG PR’s today!!! If you missed out, WHAT A SHAME!!!  These guys came all the way here from California, to teach us some(alot) things, what a difference it made in a lot of the lifters.  Cant wait to have these guys back later on this year.  Thanks again to Glenn and Donny.  We would also like thank all of those that came out from the local affilitates to enthusiasts. Please post your thoughts and feelings about the clinic here….

That was quite the experience. My first oly seminar and I’m only disappointed I have not taken one sooner. What great tips and coaching. Glenn Pendlays techniques are simple and to the point. It was phenominal to watch Donnie Shankle train. Complete awe. To watch one of the Olympic hopefuls train was a pure honor. The dedication and discipline it takes is so unfathomable.
Thank you CFHC for hosting this. Thank you Pendlay and Shankle for your time and expertise.
Now its time to put that training to work. Well, maybe tomorrow. Ouch I’m sore!

All iGot to say iS Wow! CrossFit is giving new life to the ‘sport’ of weightlifting & we all are part of that. My guess is that prior to CrossFit, 95% of us had little or no interest in olympic lifting. Now, well you all know how thats changed. We want to do snatches & jerks & cleans…huh? Now you know what a rack is & how to drop into the bucket. Watching Donny Shankle lift was intense & amazing. iLearned alot & am inspired to get better & stronger. More great stuff from this CrossFit obsession.

I’m still in shock over what I experienced yesterday. To me, what made the biggest impact wasn’t so much the weight on the bar, although that was amazing all by itself. But the focus that Donny had throughout his session was other-wordly. I’ve NEVER seen anything like that before in my life. You hear all the time about athletes “getting into the zone”. Believe me when I tell you, when he got up off that chair and turned towards the chalk bucket, he transformed into a completely different creature. And the thing of it is, he did that EVERY. SINGLE. TIME. Not just for the big lifts, but for EVERY lift. Now obviously, he was more jacked up for the lift you saw above (his second attempt at 442#), but the things he did to prepare for each and every lift were identical. To be that dialed in takes hours upon hours upon HOURS of dedication, over years and years and years. No excuses, no whining, no “I can’t”, NONE of that. Yes, the technique was spectacular. But the biggest lesson I gained was the little things I saw yesterday, the details. I keep playing them over and over in my head. Technique may lift the bar, but dedication, commitment, fearlessness, personal sacrifice, and above ALL else, SELF-DISCIPLINE… THOSE things get you the technique. What I witnessed, experienced and learned yesterday, will stay with me forever, and will probably pay greater dividends than just what I achieve inside the walls of our gyms. I am beyond grateful to Glenn, Donny, Lance and Adriana to have had the oppurtunity to be exposed to such a priceless opportunity. “Thank you” does no justice.

I loved it. Got to learn from the best in the USA. Also I found it amazing to hear stories about the amount of time, dedication, and sacrifice it takes to be an Olympic level athlete. I wil continue to follow Donny’s career. It was also cool to meet other athletes from various South Florida boxes. Thanks Lance and Queen for having this event. Did I mention I hit a new Snatch PR of 180lb. (15lb.improvement)!

We are so glad we were able to partake in the seminar. Thanks to Donny and Glenn for coming across the country to teach us. And thanks to Hardcore for setting it all up. Evan and I both PR’d on both our lifts. Unfortunately we had to leave early to go to a work dinner, so we will have to get the rest at DSS.

I have been a Pendlay fan since my first seminar back in 2010, and I must say I learned even more this time around the simplicity of is coaching it is so impressive and not easy to duplicate…….it was that simplicity that allowed so many of us to improve and understand.
The passion he has for his work can’t be described, Donny, what an humble and hard working Athlete…….I totally admire and respect both of them.
What a great experience…….

I agree with everyone 100%. I unfortunately was only able to stay for the snatch portion of the seminar. But what I learned, like Chewie, will always remain with me. I will never be able to look at a world class Olympic lifter the same way again. I have never seen that much power, grace and intensity performed in just a single moment. Watching Donny snatch 165 Kilos over his head will be a memory I will not soon forget. Will all that I had learned yesterday, the most important thing I will take with me is the call to action to change my programming and training. To add more intensity, and be willing to dare a little more. Thank you Glenn, Donny, Lance, Adriana, and Book for that amazing experience!
