This is a GREAT event peeps, we had a lot of FUN last year. This is definitely something different than your normal CF WOD, but challenges you in a different way. Lets try and get as many of the CFHC Triad out there to participate or just support your CFHC Family.

If you are interested, make sure you register soon. So you can take advantage of the practice days that they have available. You do not want to show up on the day of the event without some knowledge of the skills and events. Also for those of you that attended last year, please post your thoughts on last years event.

More great crossfit stuff. Practiced a few times with some of Boca Ratons finest, played with real firefighter toys, learned what a FF does, gained new respect & appreciation for fire rescue people…had fun. Just do iT!

I love this event, it should be called:
“So You Think You Are a Badass, Eh?” Till you are about to puke behind the fire truck, right Wang?
This event is an ultimate favorite, fun and mega educational, like a field day for adults! Most of us (me) crossfit for vanity and that feeling of weightlessness when we feel like we are about to black out; we aren’t ever are given the opportunity to see how these skills matter in a real-life, day to day scenario.
Those Spartan Races/Warrior Dashes, etc are fun obstacles races where you follow arrows and hurdle some hay stacks, but they don’t carry the significance that the firefighter challenge does. It’s a SKILLS CHALLENGE, you have to THINK, you have to APPLY everything you’ve learned. This will be a great opportunity to self-assess how much your physical and mental strength has developed as a result of crossfit. Also to see 1st hand how skills we practice everyday, are used in other capacities.

Deadlifting hundreds of pounds, snatching your body weight, picking up a stone, doesn’t mean anything if you can’t apply those same skills for specific tasks. Yes, all you studs and studdettes can deadlift a ton of weight, go you! but can you deadlift a 200lbs man for 100 meters after running up 5 flights of stairs with a 50lbs hose? Without dropping him? This is one of the hardest “wods” you will ever do, but in reality, its just a day in the life of KBG, Bionic, J-Mo, Joker, Siren, Tino (or how I like to call them, “Tiren”), et al.

Plus, we go to Hooters after!
Oh and Im excited to see the re-match between Bo-Peep and that hose

Queen – I think that one on one today might have done some real damage to me because everything Cali just said makes sense. I’m scared. Help….

Vegas, just because i don’t want to ever communicate with you, doesn’t mean my exceptional ability to communicate is impaired in any way. Now, run along and get a group 2gether for the FF Challenge, I’m coming after your Lucky Charms

LOL… Cali, are you trying to scare them away or promote the challenge? Obviously I was busy judging last time because I don’t remeber anyone puking. I would love to have pictures of that!
Firefighter’s combat challenge is called ” The toughest 2 minutes in sports”. The fact is, it is really hard but perfectly doable as every one of you crazy ass fit crossfitters proved last year. And how much fun we had, hah?
As AB would say: ” it can’t be that bad, it’s only 2 minutes.” So peeps come and try and enter as many categories as you can.
Cali, this year we will do the tailgating at FAU opening game right after the challenge instead of hooters. Are you in?

I attended last year, It was so much fun to watch everyone play fireman, to see our peeps try some new stuff, and be good at it because of their crossfit ninja skills. I had the opportunity to do the course a few years back, but not as part of team in a cool set up like this is going to be. I’m not sure if anyone will want me on their team, I might be sightly handicapped (or still drunk) being as it’s the day after my 35th Birthday, lol.

Do we plan teams now or do it the day of?

Dirty Bird
September 15, 2011, 4:05 pm

… how does all this work; teams/tandem, etc…?

CALI
September 15, 2011, 4:22 pm

we make our own teams. you can have a team of 4 or a team of 2. there are different events/stations. Last year I was on a team of 4, C2 (girl), Me (girl), Wang (guy), Frank (guy), we competed as a team, then we split up into 2 co-ed teams. We didn’t win an official prize, but we won best looking, unofficially.

for now, get a team of 4 together, then when they open up the tower to go train and the course is explained, you can divide/assign the workload accordingly.

Its as fun as a bounce house, without the bounce

Rob and Dirty Bird, you plan your relay team up to 4 people and or tandem team which consist of 2 people, each doing half of the course. You can compete in many categories in same day. To register and see the official rules log on to http://www.bocacares.org. While there you can select your practice days. I strongly recommend you use those days to familiarize yourself with the skills and technique. We will also go over the rules at the practice. If anyone has problem with the practice days let me know and I will make myself available or if on duty I will get my comrades to help. Try to select your days soon, so we have a head count and have enough firefighters to help out with training.

OMG, this event is a must. I took two trophies home last year. I hope AB that you get your ass out and participate this year. I want to know how you can apply your strength to this type of workout. The practice days are awesome. The firefighters spent so much time with us last year to teach us the skills that we needed for the competition. Its a great experience to get out of our box and go on somebody else’s training grounds. Besides all of that I think we need to show our community what crossfitters are made off. I understand that we will competing against other gyms in the area. Besides that, we all know it is for a good cause.

This was so much fun last year! Everyone should come out and put all their hard work at the box to the functional test. You’ll be surprised at how well you all will do. The team events are always the most fun and this is just another way to band together and play with some new toys for a great cause. Last year KGB, Chief Lea and the combat challenge team put an insurmountable amount of time and effort in to the event and I’m sure this year will be even better, especially because we can kick the other affiliates asses!!
Take advantage of the practices too because you get to learn some tasty technique tidbits that will help. And the training tower is right here in Boca! No excuses!!!

Crazy fun event last year! Can’t wait for an even bigger and better event this year. KGB and team dedicate a TON of time to putting this together. It’s an awesome event that should NOT be missed. Queen should make it mandatory.
Anyone know what’s wrong with Cali? All that clarity concerns me.

I hope all of you guys that did it last year will come back out this year and all those who did not last year, then you gotta come out and try it! Ive been competing in the Combat Challenge for 8 years and actually found Crossfit 5 years ago as a way to supplement my conditioning for the challenge. Its an amazing event to compete at and we have made it available for all our crossfit family to try. Just go on bocacares.org to sign up. We even allow you guys to come out and practice it prior to race day! Plus, all the money we raise goes to the Muscular Dystropy Association. A fun day for a great cause!

Just some information for those of you that will be participating this Saturday at the CrossFit FF Challenge.

1. Try to get to the event around 8:30am so that you have time to check-in, line up your team & events, and warm up. Every participant needs to Check-in the morning of the event.

2. If you don’t have a partner or a team, we will assist in putting one together during the check-in process.

3. Once you are checked in the Event Staff and course will be available for orientation, Q & A, and a brief time of practice on some of the skills events.

4. Items to bring: extra T-shirt with sleeves, folding chair, water/sports drink, towel (you may get wet), sunscreen, workout gloves & a personality.

Thanks, Brett
